Oki, Tansi, parents and guardians, Teachers are back to school following Spring break. I hope that the change in season finds you all healthy and well. As you may know, I have been reaching out to families by phone to connect with you. It has been really nice to hear your voices and the voices of my students. If you haven't heard from me yet, please note that as I am working from home, my personal number may appear as “blocked” or “unknown”. If this happens, please answer, as this is an important step in our planning for your child. Also if your phone number has changed please contact the school so that we can update it in the system. Should you need extra help during these uncertain times, please contact the school. We can connect you with different agencies that offer a variety of supports and services. PFS teachers miss our students and continue to hold our school values in our hearts. On our last day together before the break, we went out to the river to sing our song. This link is also on our school webpage: Over the next few weeks I will be adding information, website links and photos.
Please take good care! Ms. Sara :)

Oki, Tansi, Parents and Guardians, I hope that you are all well in these times of uncertainty. Please know that your child is loved and that we at PFS are thinking about and praying for the health and well-being of all of our students. To lighten your spirits, please enjoy this update of our work over the past few weeks. Literacy: Writing has many parts. "I can add finger spaces" and "I add periods at the end of sentences" were two of our learning goals. Students enjoyed acting out the punctuation as we marched to the poem "Hippopotamus". Thank goodness for doors: we had fun shouting out the last line: "Unless she's wearing roller skates!" Students also represented finger spaces and periods with pipe-cleaners and beads. Each bead represents each word. We added red beads to represent periods at the end of our "sentences". For great audio books, check out BookFlix: https://bookflix.digital.scholastic.com/home?authCtx=U.642726498 We have also been working on building our sight word core. Sight words are frequently used words that students should be able to recognize by sight. Many of these cannot be sounded out as their spelling does not match common rules. If you would like to practice sight words, this website offers great games and activities that will help your child to build their sight word core while having fun: https://sightwords.com/sight-words We have also been watching some sight word videos in class. Here are a couple that that the students have watched recently:
Math: Students have been working on using different strategies to add and subtract quickly and easily. We have been working on adding and subtracting to 20. We used Goldfish crackers, whiteboards, base 10 blocks and journals to show our work. We also continued to work on counting to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. We sang, clapped, exercised and used number tiles. Here are some popular videos that the kids enjoyed:
Land-based Learning: As the weather changed, students used their 5 senses to note changes from Winter to Spring. We also looked for evidence of animals. Students learned about how different animals adapt to the seasons: some hibernate, and some are active year-round. We began projects to show different animals in their environments.
